“What do I care about law? Ain’t I got the power?” – Cornelius Vanderbilt
If you feel like Mr. Vanderbilt, you might be thinking the same thing; “What do i care about law?” and truth be told you might not care about the law very much, but if you’re reading this blog post right now you must have a slight interest and that might be enough.
Why should I study Law?
Ask yourself this question many times before you decide to study Law and if you find yourself struggling to answer the question then Law might not be for you because a lack of genuine interest in Law and the legal sector is important to have. Law can be demanding to say the least and if you don’t have a genuine passion you will struggle to complete the reading as well as your assignments.
How to get started?
However you want to. Google it. Ask a friend. Ask a teacher. Watch YouTube videos. Read a blog (shameless plug). Search it however you want and ask the questions that are most important to you. After you have all your questions, go to an Open Day and see the environment that you will, potentially, be studying in for the next 3/4 years. I was lucky enough to get an offer from a Russell Group University but when I went to visit it I could not imagine a worse place for someone like me to study so I went for my insurance choice and I love it, so never underestimate the power of liking your environment because you’re there to do more than just study;
Where can Law take you?
In today’s day and age, no one can deny the significance of studying Law and the way it can “open doors” for you, but what does that actually mean? It means that a Law degree can provide a plethora of opportunities for graduates in all kinds of sectors and just because you graduate in Law does not mean you have to pursue a career in Law, as many people don’t. You might find yourself in academics and business or finance and banking; you never know where you will end up.
Pro Tip: Open Days are your best friend. Go to as many as you can and learn as much as you can. Also, a lot of universities give free lunch on Open Days. So win/win.
